The inn where we are staying in Wakayama City today is called: “Wakanoura Onsen 萬波” Manpa Resort.
You can enjoy the beautiful sea view of Wakaura from all the rooms here.
This room is on the 7th floor, and the view of the sea from the bedroom made me feel so relaxed and calm.
Fresh sashimi delivered directly from the port.
However, neither I nor my husband like sashimi, so they prepared a special deep sea bass pot.
The odorless fillet was thick and very meaty and very easy to eat. The collagen contained in the sea bass is expected to have a great effect on your skin. It is a phantom fish that is rare in Japan!
In addition to the yukata provided in the room, there is also yukata rental service provided by Manpa resort, which is available for children and adults!
Note: Please let the resort staff know when you would like to use the yukata rental service.
At Manpa resort, in addition to the popular open-air bath Manyo-no-Yu where you can watch the sunset at Wakaura, you can even enjoy it privately.
You can choose from two types, Daidai-no-yu and Aoi-no-yu.
The Daidai-no-yu is a barrier-free space and is popular for the elderly people and people with disabilities.
This time we chose the Aoi-no-yu, and since it’s a big deal, we added an optional rose bath course.
Note: This photo was taken on September 18, 2020, and the price is exactly what the inn posted.
Aoi-no-yu is a dreamlike space created by three sets of blue LEDs. The bath was so spacious for just two people, that we were both able to relax and enjoy it.

Breakfast was also very luxurious! When the waiter had brought the rice, the waiter had asked me if I would like to add shirasu toppings, and why not?! I had came to the resort that was on the harbor, so I couldn’t miss out on the fresh shirasu! You can get free refills of shirasu rice and dashi rolled eggs.
Shirasu rice with dried plum and mentaiko from Kishu, you can see it from the look on my face, it’s really delicious!!
If I ever have the chance to travel to Kyoto with my Taiwanese family, I definitely want to come back and have them try this fresh and delicious Wakayama seafood dish!

Watching the sea is my favorite thing to do when traveling. The hot spring areas near Wakayama include Shirahama Onsen, Katsuura Onsen, Kawayu Onsen, and Ryujin Onsen. This time I chose to go to Katsuura Onsen. There are fewer tourists there, mainly Japanese.
I chose a plan with 1 berth and 2 meals, and stayed two nights on Friday and Saturday. Friday and Saturday are the busiest and most expensive check-in days. Below are the prices for bookings in jalan for your reference.
First night: Two people staying at 15,000 円 each (without tax)
Second night: Two people staying at 20,910, one without taxOnly a group of overseas guests stayed there that night.
Lobby (reception on the left; restaurant on the right)
Toothbrushes and combs were placed next to the reception. There are nine types of toothbrushes alone, which is very exaggerated.
Looking out of the lobby during the day is an endless sea view.
There are public baths in the pavilion, as well as private styles for rent. You can enjoy the sea view while soaking in the open air.
Many locals are fishing nearby, and it seems that there are fishing hotspots here.
There is a board with some thank-you notes on it. The previous paragraph was for the various hotel guests that night, and the Japanese were really considerate.
restaurant. Each group of guests has its own small box, although not completely hidden, but at least not as open as a regular restaurant.
For dinner, it is standard Japanese kaiseki cuisine. This is an appetizer for two, including soy milkweed, lotus root pancakes, chestnut nectar and so on.
Very delicious sashimi platter with saury and tuna.
Sturgeon pot with plum noodles. The carp meat is very fat, but be careful of fish bones when eating.
This is the main course of the first night, it is very exciting, there are a lot of delicious grilled vegetables with miso, and there is beef hachi roll in meat. The yellow one is cold pumpkin juice with fried sirloin.
The main course for the second night was also very delicious, salted seafood.
Desserts are chestnut pudding with sorbet, red beans, white jade, and mango.
After eating, we went to rest in the hotel’s lounge. There are massage chairs and various drinks (most of them are free).
Free drinks include coffee, milk tea, and black tea from this machine. It tastes better than expected.
There are quite a few seats in the lounge and the environment is comfortable.
The standard room on the 5th floor is a Japanese-style room with a bathroom, which is quite spacious. All rooms and hot springs can enjoy the sea view of Wakaura Bay, but they can only be seen during the day.
The next morning, I opened my eyes and finally saw the spectacular sea view outside the room. This sea view can be said to be the biggest selling point of the entire hotel. At that time, it was about five o’clock in the morning.
By seven o’clock, it turned into a different sky, and the scenery was completely different.
Sitting on the terrace, I feel that I can stay here all day without feeling tired.Wakaura Bay is very calm, close your eyes to hear the sound of sea water that soothes the soul.
Seeing the beauty in front of me makes me overjoyed.
After grooming, I still couldn’t help but admire the sea view.
Breakfast is buffet style, not very many styles, but more than enough, and each one is of high quality.
Bread uses natural yeast, and the wheat flour used is 100% made in Japan.
Personally, I like to eat local raw eggs with white rice (egg rice).
There is also a piece of paper on the table that teaches you how to eat eggs and rice.
The grilled fish and fried dishes are also of a high standard.
All in all, manpa is a hotel not far from the center of Wakayama, where you can see the sea, the quality of the food, the service is first-rate, the scenery is unbeatable, the hot springs are good, and the point is not expensive. Travel is the most important thing to relax, and this hotel is giving you that kind of calm power.

Perhaps one of the best highlights of my secret Wakayama, are the hot spring hotels that are located on the Japanese shores. I splurged for a night to experience Manpa Resort in Wakanoura, which sits atop a cliff overlooking the ocean. Also overlooking the ocean are the public and private baths (AKA onsens); meaning that one is for both men and women, and the others are separated.
