Grand festival commemorating the 1300th anniversary of the birth of Wakanoura, the sacred place of waka

Ever since Emperor Shomu visited Wakanoura in 724 and was impressed by its scenery, this area has attracted many people as a “sacred place for waka”, which has been written by many poets. This year, 2024, marks the 1300th anniversary of the beginning of the history of this sacred place of waka. To commemorate this occasion, the “1300th Anniversary Festival of Wakanoura, the Holy Land of Waka Poetry” will be held.
