Kiifudoki-no-oka is a Wakayama prefectural museum of archaeology and folklore, which was established aiming at preservation and utilization of the special historical site “Iwasesenzuka-kofun Tumuli”.
There are tumuli, houses built in Edo period and a restored pit dwelling houses and so on. You can learn about ancient history and the old-time lifestyle.
The park is about 3km (about 80 minutes). Strolling around the seasonal plants and tumuli is recommended for a little exercise.
The altitude is about 150m, so the long hill is hard work, but the view from the top is refreshing.

The reason why I plan to go to Kiifu Doki is to watch the red leaves. Unfortunately, the day I visited (in early November), the red leaves were still not open, so I still had a little regret during the visit.
Kiifu Doki has preserved more than 430 ancient tombs, and those interested in archaeology should relish it. It is said that from the third century to the seventh century, the ruling classes in various places in Japan built a large number of tombs, known as the “Era of Tombs.”
It takes about 5 minutes to walk from the bus stop to the entrance. There are trees on both sides, which make you feel warm under the sunshine.

There are many “Haniwa” on the way from the bus stop to the entrance.
“Haniwa” refers to the pottery arranged on the top of the ancient tomb and around the mound.

The park is very large. I did not visit all the ancient tombs. I walked to the observation deck to see the scenery. The whole park is a hill with a height of about 150 meters, which overlooks Wakayama City and Kinokawa.
